The Indian Premier League, throughout the year, has been known to produce some world-class players along with staggering entertainment. In IPL 2025, we have seen several young players making it big for their team, but the one who made a loud headline is Rajasthan Royals’ baby batter – Vaibhavi Suryavanshi.

Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?
Vaibhav Suryavanshi originates from a village called Tajpur, located in the Samastipur district of Bihar. Due to the lack of cricket facilities in his area, he and his father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, would travel nearly 90 kilometers daily to Patna for practice. It wasn’t easy, but due to his father, Vaibhav stayed committed to his goal.

His ascent has been rather rapid. He debuted at first-class for Bihar in the 2023–24 Ranji Trophy when he was just 12 years and 284 days old. He had a strong performance in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, earning a spot on the India A team for the 2023 Under-19 Quadrangular Series featuring Bangladesh, England, and two Indian teams (India A and B).

While playing for India B U-19, Vaibhav scored 53 runs against England U-19 and 75 runs against Bangladesh U-19. In that game, Wasim Jaffer, a former India player and coach of Bangladesh U-19, recognized Vaibhav’s talent and was very impressed.
Vaibhavi Suryavanshi made it big during the mega auction for IPL 2025 with his continuous, glorious performances. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) bought him for ₹₹1 crore in the IPL auction after he performed well in trials. RR’s batting coach Vikram Rathour and performance director Zubin Bharucha were impressed by him. Though he did not participate in the initial seven games, he got a chance after captain Sanju Samson got hurt and made his debut as the youngest player ever in IPL history.

He still has much to achieve, but currently, there is a festive atmosphere in the Suryavanshi home in Samastipur.
A Record-breaking IPL Entry
In just his third IPL match, Suryavanshi astonished fans by scoring 101 runs off 38 balls against the Gujarat Titans. This sensational inning includes 11 sixes and 7 fours. This remarkable feat made him the youngest player to score a century in the IPL and the second-fastest century in the tournament’s history.

Sacrifice of Vaibhavi Suryavanshi’s Parents
Vaibhav’s coach Manish Ojha has also talked about the sacrifices of his parents.
“Vaibhav came to me when he was around nine years old. The distance from his native Samastipur to Patna is around 100 km, and he used to come to my coaching center every alternate day. Vaibhav used to start training around 7:30 am and continued till the evening, before travelling back home. He has followed this schedule for over four years,” Ojha told Cricketnext.

“Vaibhav kept on getting fame in Bihar, but his parents have played a huge role. His mother woke up early at 4 am and prepared food for Vaibhav. His father accompanied him to training and matches. We did contribute as coaches, but his parents are the driving forces, added Ojha.”
Ojha further added, “Vaibhav and his father had long ago made up their minds that the kid will play cricket. The father wanted to play cricket, but he couldn’t. So, he tried to live his dream through his son.”
