Ayush Mhatre, who is just 17 years of age, has already emerged as one of the most thrilling young cricketers in India. He began his first-class cricket career playing for Mumbai in the 2024–25 Irani Cup. Although he was extremely young, he displayed immense confidence and ability as an opening batter. He batted against seasoned bowlers without any fear and played with decent technique and maturity.
Only a few weeks into his debut, Mhatre demonstrated his talent once more. During a Ranji Trophy match against Maharashtra, he scored his maiden first-class century. He did not rest on his 100 and he continued to score an astonishing 176 runs.
His innings was replete with gorgeous shots, intelligent decisions, and composure. This display had everyone taking notice, and people began referring to him as one of the brightest young players in the nation.
Shortly thereafter, Mhatre set another huge record in List A cricket. He became the youngest batsman in men’s cricket to have scored over 150 runs in an innings. He broke Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record, who hails from Mumbai too.

Due to these excellent performances, IPL teams began to take him seriously. In the season of 2025 IPL, Chennai Super Kings selected him in their team. On the 20th of April 2025, Mhatre featured in his very first IPL match against Mumbai Indians, against his home city franchise.
He batted at number 3 following a sluggish start by CSK. Mhatre batted boldly and scored 32 runs from only 15 balls. His explosive but brief innings consisted of 4 fours and 2 sixes. It showed CSK back in the game, and spectators were thoroughly impressed.
But Mhatre’s finest IPL experience occurred on 3rd May 2025, when CSK played Royal Challengers Bangalore. CSK was trying to chase a massive score of 214 runs. Mhatre scored one of the tournament’s best innings, which consisted of 94 runs from 48 deliveries. He struck great cover drives, massive sixes, and smart singles. He took CSK almost to the winning line, but missed his maiden IPL century by 6 runs. Nevertheless, everyone hailed his innings as one of the top innings by a young cricketer.
At the age of only 17 years and 278 days, Mhatre became the 7th youngest player to feature in an IPL match. But the way he plays indicates that he is already mature and confident. With his solid technique, aggressive mindset, and God-gifted cricket ability, Mhatre has already gained the heart of fans. His career is yet to begin, but everyone feels that he has the potential to become one of the greatest stars in Indian cricket in the coming years.
