India all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remaining two One-Day International matches against New Zealand.
During the first ODI at Vadodara on Sunday, Washington suffered a side strain, due to which he could bowl only five overs. He came in to bat at number 8 and found it difficult to run later in the innings. After a small collapse in the middle overs, KL Rahul helped India win the match with one over remaining. Washington scored seven runs from seven balls.
Indian wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul talked about the situation of Washington Sundar and said, “I didn’t know he (Washington) couldn’t run. I knew he had a bit of an injury in the first innings, but I wasn’t aware of the extent. That said, he was striking the ball really well. When he came in, we were already going at about a run-a-ball, so there was no need to take unnecessary risks. There wasn’t too much pressure on him. He rotated the strike and did his job.”
After the injury, Washington was taken for medical scans at once. The doctors advised him to take a rest for a few weeks, so he will go back home first and then report to the Centre of Excellence later.
Indian pacer Harshit Rana also talked about the injury of Washington Sundar, and he said, “Washington Sundar has a side strain. He was in pain while batting. Our medical team will assess and will update.”
